Wheatears are among the first summer migrants to return to the Highlands. A few reach the north in the last days of March along with the first Ospreys and a few Sand Martins. The first birds usually appear along the coast, occupying territories in a variety of habitats from sand dunes to boulder beaches and scree slopes.
